AFRICA ABLAZE!
By: CFC Multimedia Center
It was a truly Spirit-filled weekend for Couples for Christ in Africa. On November 3 and 4, the International Council met with the CFC brethren from 11 African countries for the CFC Africa Pastoral Congress, part of the series of congresses held around the world to revisit the vision/mission of Couples for Christ and to draw up plans for the community’s next 25 years.
Held in Nairobi, Kenya, the Congress had 127 participants, ten of them from the clergy and religious, including Cardinal Napier of South Africa, Cardinal Njue of Kenya, and Bishop Kamau of Nairobi. Cardinal Pengo of Tanzania and the bishops of Egypt and Seychelles sent video messages of support for CFC and the Congress.
The participants came from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, Ghana, Sudan, Seychelles, Malawi, Burundi, Mauritius and Lesotho, representing all the major regions of the continent. The participants from Manila included International Council Director Joe Tale and Council members Rouquel Ponte and Ernie Maipid, Bong Garrucho who facilitated the congress workshops, and Ricky Cuenca, member of the CFC Board of Elders and West Africa coordinator.
The two-day Congress drew up the vision and plans for CFC Africa up to the year 2020. At the end of the Congress, all the participants committed to the Covenant for Africa Ablaze. Joe Tale, in a text message from Nairobi, admitted to being overwhelmed by the African experience, exclaiming, “Praise our Amazing God!”
