Greetings for the new year
By: Frank Padilla

Once again we face a new year, and once again I look forward to it with great excitement and anticipation. I look at how God has formed CFC through the years and now how God has raised a formidable army that He is using to accomplish His plan and purpose for the world. God calls on all Christians to be His instruments and provides the grace that is needed, but when those He calls respond, and when they respond wholeheartedly, then God empowers them with His Spirit to renew the very face of the earth.

In 25-1/2 years CFC has done much. We are in 158 countries, from Angola to Anguilla, from Austria to Australia, from Monaco to Morocco, from Swaziland to Switzerland. Indeed from American Samoa to Zimbabwe (A to Z). Our members are from many different nations, races, cultures and tongues. Our brethren are serving in the remotest corners of the world, doing so without fanfare and even recognition or earthly reward. And our brethren are literally giving up their lives for the cause of Christ.

In all humility but in recognition of the God working in and through us, CFC today is the foremost family life renewal ministry in the universal Church, through the work of our Family Ministries and Pro-Life, and CFC today is poised to become the community that will be most effective in building the Church of the Poor, through the work of our Social Ministries and Gawad Kalinga. This is a great privilege for all of us, but it is also a great responsibility. Where much is given, much is expected. At stake in our response to God\'s call, together with all others who are called, is the very plan of God for the life of the world.

Can you appreciate my excitement? But there is also some trepidation. This is God\'s work. This is God\'s plan. This is God\'s will. But God has entrusted it to us (and others called). How can weak human flesh do the very work of God? How can our puny minds comprehend the length and breadth of God\'s plan? But this is precisely what God has done. God confounds human wisdom. God became man and suffered ignominy on the cross, but won for us our salvation. So God decides to use us, even when we are weak and unworthy. How can we not respond, with our all, to such a great privilege?

I thank all of you for all the work you did in 2006 and the many sacrifices I know you endured. I think fondly in particular about our missionaries who during this Advent season and transition to a new year remain in their mission areas, away from home and loved ones. All you who serve will not be recognized to the extent that you deserve, but God knows. And God will never be outdone in generosity.

My dear brethren, let us continue to give of ourselves to the life and mission of CFC. CFC is God\'s gift to all of us, providing the support environment that allows us to grow in holiness, and providing the means by which we can serve Him. Let us be faithful to our covenant, for this is our very covenant with God, who called us and provided CFC for us, in order to do His will for the life of the world.

I pray that you will experience Christ even more in 2007. Have a blessed and Spirit-filled new year.

Your brother and co-worker,

frank
